To perform a fast removal of either generated gas or impurities and enable a section around a sample to be kept in clean atmosphere by ensuring a flowing of atmospheric gas around the sample.
This image furnace 10 is constructed such that a light source 13 is installed at one focal point of a rotary elliptic reflecting mirror 12 and light is concentrated to a sample 15 arranged at the other focal point sealed in a sealing container 14 so as to heat the sample 15 and melt it. In this case, the sealing container 14 is arranged such that its extremity end may be projected into the rotary elliptic reflecting mirror 12 and a gas feeding pipe 14d is fed into the rotary elliptic reflecting mirror 12 and at the same time an extremity end opening of the gas feeding pipe 14d is opened inside the extremity end of the sealing container 14 and further the base end of the container 14 is provided with a gas discharging port for use in discharging gas.
