When sorting a plurality of letters through two times of sorting processing, an image identification part 2, on the first sorting processing, arranges feature data of the letter image which are produced, side by side in an accumulation order after sorting and stores the feature data and, on the second sorting processing, compares an order of feature data of the letter image which are again produced, with the order of the feature data stored on the first sorting processing and, thereby, the letter images having the feature data in which both orders accord with each other are identified in a plurality of units.
