Abstract:
To prevent discarding of important quantization coefficients which is caused by a conventional discarding method using only a zero run, and to reduce the image information amount in image encoding.
This image information amount compression apparatus is provided with a discard setting unit having a counter unit for detecting a position of quantization coefficients in a scanning order and a zero-run detecting unit for detecting zero run of the quantization coefficients, and an adding unit for calculating the sum of absolute values of the quantization coefficients in order to set conditions for discarding the quantization coefficients into zero in a coefficient discarding unit for compressing the quantization coefficients.
