Abstract:
PURPOSE: To improve the compression effect by coding image information by a prescribed system when an error predicting a picture element level of a noted block based on the image information of surrounding blocks is large and outputting flag information when the error is small.
CONSTITUTION: An image information block extract section 2 divides one page into plural blocks to extract sequentially image information in each block, and a picture element level prediction section 6 predicts a picture element level in each block based on the image information of surrounding blocks. Then an error detection section 7 detects an error between the predicted picture element level and an actual picture element level, an error accumulation section 8 calculates the total sum of the predicted errors, and an output data selection section 9 compares the total sum with a threshold level. When the total sum is larger than the threshold level, a multi-value coding section 3 applies coding to the image information of a noted block by a predetermined system and provides an output. On the other hand, when smaller than the threshold level, a flag output section 4 provides an output of the flag information only representing the omission of coding. Furthermore, the image information reproduction processing unit reproduces the compressed data into multi-value image information.
