Abstract:
PURPOSE: To choose an optimum coding table in order to effectively code the images by giving the numbers to the groups of coefficients obtained by subjecting the input images to the orthogonal conversion and changing the coding tables based on those group numbers.
CONSTITUTION: When a zero deciding part 401 decides the AC coefficient that is scanned zigzag by a scan converter 3 as an invalid coefficient 0, a run length counting part 402 decides the coefficient length equal to continuous 0 as zero run. This zero run is outputted to a grouping part 403. If the coefficient is not equal to 0, this coefficient is supplied to the part 403 as it is. Then the coefficients including the zero run are grouped via the grouping tables Tg stored in a table memory 404, and the numbers No and the additional bits Add are outputted. The numbers No are supplied to a one-dimensional Huffman coding part 406 and a latch circuit 405. The number No is delayed by a degree equal to a single sample at the circuit 405 and supplied to the part 406 as a precedent group number DNo. Then the number DNo is converted by its corresponding table Tg and supplied to a transmission formatting part 408 together with a code word Cd, the word length Ln and the bit Add of the part 403. Thus the data are obtained.
