To provide a small image pickup apparatus capable of high-precision focus adjustment by highly precisely engaging between a hanging shaft and a hanging shaft hole of a lens frame.
The image pickup apparatus consists of a chassis 3 with which the hanging shaft 12 is formed integrally; an image pickup unit which is attached to the chassis 3; an optical unit which engages the hanging shaft 12 of the chassis 3 with the hanging shaft hole 19 formed on the lens frame 17 for holding a lens, supports the lens frame 17 movably in an optical axis direction, and forms an optical image of a subject on the image pickup unit; and a driver which drives the lens frame 17 in the optical axis direction. The hanging shaft 12 has a first dimension (d1) and a second dimension (d2) smaller than the first dimension (d1), and the hanging shaft hole 19 has a third dimension (d3) engaging with first dimension (d1) of the hanging shaft and a fourth dimension (d4) being smaller than the third dimension (d3) and engaging with the second dimension (d2) of the hanging shaft 12.
