Focus bracket photographing is executed in a focused position of the main subject and a focal point position therearound, and the degree of sharpness of pixels selected in the entire image is calculated. If the degree of sharpness of a reference image is the largest, the pixel value of the reference image is output (step S102). If the degree of sharpness is not the largest and the degree of sharpness of an image far from the focused position of the main subject is the largest, the pixel value of an image closer from the focused position of the main subject is output (step S104). In the other cases, the pixel value of an image far from the focused position of the main subject is output (step S105). The above processing is executed for all the pixels so as to composite output pixels.
