A detect detection level setting part 53 of this image pickup device 1 sets a defect detection level in accordance with photographing conditions, such as a photographing mode, a shutter speed, sensitivity and object brightness. A detection part 51 compares an index value calculated by using a pixel value of a prescribed pixel and a pixel value of an ambient pixel of the prescribed pixel with a changed defect detection level in a photographed image acquired by using an image pickup element such as a CCD to thereby determine whether the prescribed pixel is a defective pixel, detecting the defective pixel in the picked-up image. A correction part 52 corrects a pixel value of the detected defective pixel. In addition, similar processing may be realized by the program.
