PURPOSE: To obtain the miniaturized image pickup element sensing optically an accident such as fire, theft or invasion of a person by containing a circuit component to obtain a video signal corresponding to a video image projected into a CCD into a package.

CONSTITUTION: The image pickup element 10 is installed at a location where a monitor object of one wall face close to a ceiling is within its sight in a room being the object of monitor. The element 10 consists of a CCD 12 whose number of picture elements is comparatively less, a package 14 having a window 15 open in a front side of the CCD 12, a frame 11 used to mount the CCD 12 and a lens 13 mounted to a window 15 of the package 14 used to project a beam within the visual field into the CCD 12. Furthermore, a circular thread hole is adopted for the window 15, a screw is formed to an outer circumference of the lens 13 and the focus is easily matched by turning the lens 13 so as to adjust the interval between the CCD 12 and the lens 13.
