To realize high speed transfer of large capacity data such as a moving image with a simple device configuration even when the data transfer capability and the processing capability of the entire system are low in the image pickup system and the image pickup device.
A CCD 104 converts an object image received ia an optical system 103 into an electric signal, an A/D converter wavelength 105 converts the signal into a digital signal and a video signal generating section 106 generates a prescribed video signal. Then a color space conversion section 107 converts a color space of the video signal and gives the result to an external personal computer 102 via an I/F(interface) section 112. In this case, the video signal is compressed an the compressed signal is transferred in response to a lookup table contained in the color space conversion section 107.
