The horizontal scanning frequency of a video input signal to be measured by a first CPU1 18 is received and a sampling clock frequency is calculated by a second CPU2 24. When the frequency is judged to be larger than 40 MHz by the second CPU2 24, it is set to 40 MHz and horizontal size is calculated for the vide input signal based on the frequency. Then, vertical size whose a vertical effective ratio is considered to be most appropriate for the number of scanning lines is calculated. Thus, when the calculation of an auto-scan value is completed and a mode is judged to be in an auto-scan mode by the second CPU2 24, a feed pitch is calculated. Then, an image is printed by calculating the feed pitch based on the previous image data stored in an image printing set value memory.
