To detect the image quality characteristics of a printed thin line precisely with high accuracy.SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus 102 comprises: an image input unit 201 that acquires image data of a thin line image created by reading, with a scanner 101, a printed material on which a thin line with a known line width is formed; a paper white area extraction unit 202 that extracts a paper white area in the thin line image; a paper noise analysis unit 203 that analyzes image data of the paper white area to detect paper noise of the thin line image; a paper noise reduction unit 204 that reduces the paper noise of the thin line image detected by the paper noise analysis unit 203; and a thin line measuring unit 205 that measures the image quality characteristics of the thin line from the thin line image whose paper noise is reduced by the paper noise reduction unit 204.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
