To provide an apparatus and a method capable of generating an image with suppressed distortion, the distortion being caused by focal plane operation etc. occurring on the basis of the movement of a subject etc.
The apparatus comprises: intermediate image generation parts which input images deviated in exposure time by region photographed by focal plane shutter operation, generate plural exposure pattern images corresponding to different exposure times on the basis of the input images, and generate plural timing images being difference images of the exposure pattern images; and a distortion correction part which generates a corrected image equivalent to an image exposed for a predetermined exposure time, by composition processing of the timing images generated by the intermediate image generation parts. For example, by selecting and composing only the timing images exposed for the predetermined exposure time, for example by each row, an image which is not distorted can be generated.
