Abstract:

To provide an apparatus and method for detecting a moving object region by analyzing a simple image composed of long-term exposure pixels and short-term exposure pixels.

An image processing apparatus comprises a signal processing unit which receives a single image captured by an imaging device comprising the long-term exposure pixels and short-term exposure pixels and analyzes the input image to detect a moving object region being the photographic region of a moving subject. The signal processing unit verifies the compatibility between a brightness pattern in the vicinity of the attention pixel of the input image and the pixel pattern of the long-term exposure pixels and short-term exposure pixels and if the compatibility is high, determines that the attention pixel is the moving object region. In the case of further generating a higher dynamic range image by pixel value synthesis of the long-term exposure pixels and short-term exposure pixels, the signal processing unit executes the pixel value synthesis with a different mode in the moving object region and the other region.
