Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology capable of speeding up processing while maintaining image quality required for an output image.SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus includes: an edge determination unit that determines whether an edge is included in a pseudo pixel, based on gradation values of a plurality of pixels included in the pseudo pixel obtained by uniting a plurality of pixels included in a target image, in accordance with a determination criterion; a first halftone processing unit that generates first data representing the formation state of dots in the pixels of the target image by executing halftone processing by using a representative value of the pseudo pixel using a pseudo pixel determined that an edge is not included, as a target; and a second halftone processing unit that generates second data representing the formation state of the dots in the pixels of the target image by executing the halftone processing by using a gradation value of the pixels included in the pseudo pixel using a pseudo pixel determined that an edge is included, as a target. The determination criterion is made variable in accordance with whether emphasis is placed on the reproduction of the edge.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 10
