Abstract:
To provide an image processing apparatus and an image processing method that can expand an object recognizable range.SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus 5 comprises: an infrared light radiation unit 1 that radiates infrared light toward the periphery of a vehicle V; an imaging unit 2 that picks up an infrared light image of the periphery of the vehicle and outputs an infrared light image signal; and a recognition unit 3 that recognizes a first area in the infrared light image where an image a first object is picked up on the basis of the infrared light image signal from the imaging unit 2, and outputs first position information in the infrared light image related to the first area. The imaging unit 2 has a brightness adjustment unit 234 that, on the basis of the first position information output from the recognition unit 3, adjusts a second brightness of a second area having a lower brightness than a first brightness of the first area in the infrared light image on the basis of the first brightness.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6
