To avoid a wasteful process in a self unit without applying an unnecessary load to network communication and the like when a normal process to image data cannot be operated in an image processing apparatus capable of performing a prescribed process to specific image data which are obtained from a file server and the like.
Image specific information and attribute information to image data specified by the image specific information are read from an IC tag embedded in a manuscript through an IC tag reader 601. When the self unit has only a monochrome image forming function and the specified image data are color images, it is determined that a regular process cannot be carried out in the self unit, and the image data are not down-loaded from a file server, or image formation is not implemented until a user's indication is shown.
