PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus which performs flare correction with high image quality.SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus includes: acquisition means for acquiring an original image represented by first to n-th (n≥3) color components; generation means for rearranging the first to n-th color components in the order of magnitudes to generate at least a maximum value surface, a minimum value surface and a median surface and applies gamma transformations of different properties to at least the maximum value surface and the minimum value surface to generate one lightness component on the basis of at least one of the maximum and minimum value surfaces to which the gamma transformations have been applied, and the median surface; and correction means for calculating a correction pixel value of the first color component in such a manner that a difference between the correction pixel value of the first color component and a local average value of the first color component in a correction target pixel of the first color component maintains a correlation to a difference between a pixel value of the lightness component and a local average value of the lightness component in the pixel.
