To provide a technology for conforming an effect of wide dynamic range processing using a small number of images for synthesis to an effect of wide dynamic range processing using a large number of images for synthesis.
An image processing device having generation means synthesizing N images (N is an integer equal to or greater than three) taken by imaging means using N different exposure values to generate a wide dynamic range (HDR) image, has: imaging control means making the imaging means take two images using two different exposure values; conversion means converting gradation characteristics of at least one of the two images; and generation control means making the generation means synthesize the two images to at least one of which the gradation characteristics is converted by the conversion means. The conversion means converts the gradation characteristics of at least one of the two images so as to conform the gradation characteristics of an HDR image generated from the two images to the gradation characteristics of an HDR image generated from the N images, based on the N exposure values and the two exposure values of the two images.
