To achieve color recovery with high precision by a simple means in underwater photography.
An image processing device comprises an image sensor 1, an A/D converter 2, an OB (optical black) subtractor 3, a demosaicing processing part 4, a white balance gain multiplier 5, an underwater optical path length calculator 6, a color recovery matrix generating part 7, a color recovery matrix multiplier 8, a land/water selector 9, a matrix multiplier 10, a gamma processing part 11, and a video recording part 12. When photographing underwater, a color recovery matrix corresponding to underwater optical path length or white balance gain is generated and the generated color recovery matrix, color space conversion matrix, and white balance gain are used to calculate a pixel value so that a non-bluish natural image like that on the land can be obtained.
