To provide an image processing method for correcting the irregularity of a recording head without altering the driving conditions or the like of the recording head such as an ink jet recording head, a thermal head or the like.
In an ink jet recording apparatus having an ink jet head having a plurality of nozzles formed thereto and forming an image on the basis of multi-value image data, a γ correction parameter is selected corresponding to the jet characteristics to the input gradation level of the recording head or corresponding to the brightness characteristics of a printing image to the input gradation level to form an image on the basis of the selected γ correction parameter. For example, even if there is irregularity in the brightness characteristics of the recording head as shown by Fig 9, the γ correction parameter optimum to the recording head is selected to form the image to obtain a constant image quality even if the recording head is replaced.
