Abstract:
PURPOSE: To prevent the density error of picture elements around an attentional picture elements from being cumulated at the time of error diffusion processing by turning density error in the case of calculating the corrected density level of the attentional picture element to '0' when the corrected density level of respective picture elements around the attentional picture element is higher than a white discrimination value or lower than a black discrimination value.
CONSTITUTION: When the image of an original is read and scanned by a scanning head and a read density level fmn of the attentional picture element is inputted from a line memory 3 to an adder 5, the value of a corrected density level f'mn is calculated by adding a weight average value Eamn of picture elements around the attentional picture element outputted from an arithmetic circuit 1 to this value. This value is compared with a threshold value T by a comparator 6, when it is higher than the T, the value of Gmn=63 (white picture element) is sent to an output buffer 7 and the attentional picture element is outputted as a white picture element. Oppositely when that value is lower than the threshold value T, Gmn=0 is outputted and the attentional picture element is outputted as a black picture element. On the other hand, density error Emn of the attentional picture element is calculated form the corrected density level f'mn by an arithmetic circuit 8 and sent to a buffer 9. At such a time, when the white discrimination value is smaller than the threshold value T, the Emn is turned to '0'.
