Abstract:
PURPOSE: To perform more efficient compression and picture processing of picture data by discriminating the attributes of the belonging pictures of a block based on the value of a gradation width index and the average value information of brightness components and chromaticity components.
CONSTITUTION: In an encoding/decoding processing part 604, after executing the encoding processing of a GBTC system, the attributes of the image are discriminated by respective block units and encoded data (the gradation width index, the average value information and code data) are compressed again based on a discriminated result. Compressed data obtained by compression for the second time are stored in a compressed image memory 610 and a flag for indicating the images is stored on a hard disk 614. In the encoding/decoding processing part 604, based on the value of the flag for indicating the attributes of the images, the re-compressed data are expanded to the encoded data. Then, the encoded data are decoded corresponding to the GBTC system and the lightness component L2* and the chromaticity components a2* and b2* of the image data are outputted.
