To stabilize the output of second-order higher harmonics within a drawing area, in an image projector that uses a distributed feedback (DFB) laser.
The image projector is provided with the DFB laser 2; a light wavelength conversion element 4 for converting a fundamental wave 3 emitted from the DFB laser 2 to second-order higher harmonics 5; detectors 14 and 15 for monitoring at least the quantity of light of second-order higher harmonics out of the quantities of light of the fundamental wave 3 and secondary higher harmonics 5; an optical deflector 7 for making the second-order higher harmonics 5 scan one-dimensionally or two-dimensionally; a modulation means 111 for modulating the DFB laser 2 according to image signal; and wavelength adjustment means 21 and 112 for adjusting the wavelength of the fundamental wave 3 during the time there is no image signal on the basis of the monitor result of the detectors 14 and 15. The wavelength of the fundamental wave 3 is adjusted on the basis of the monitor result, to stabilize the output of higher harmonics 5 within the drawing area.
