To provide an image reader in which a document is appropriately irradiated with light and non-uniformity in a document read density is reduced.
An image reader includes: a document conveyance part 70 for conveying a document G to a document read position R; first document state detectors 440, 450 for detecting the state of the document G to be conveyed to the document read position R by the document conveyance part 70; a light emitting part 500 configured to change the quantity of light to be emitted by a plurality of light-emitting members 501 for emitting light H0 with which the document G located at the document read position R is irradiated; a light emission quantity control part 411 for controlling the quantity of light to be emitted by the plurality of light-emitting members 501 on the basis of the state of the document G detected by the first document state detection parts 440, 450; mirrors 321, 322 for forming an optical path H by reflecting light flux H from the document G; an imaging lens for imaging the light flux H reflected by the mirrors 321, 322; and an image sensor which is disposed at the imaging position of the imaging lens and reads the image of the document G on the basis of imaging by the imaging lens.
