Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an original reader which has an identifying function of an original including a black and white original and a color image and reads the entire original at a high speed in reading an original with an original with mixed originals including a black and white original and a color image.
SOLUTION: This image reader is provided with a transportation path for feeding an original on a stacker toward a reading position, a reading means for reading the original passing through the reading position, an identifying means for identifying whether an original image read by the reading means is an image including a black and white image or a color image, a first switchback path provided on the transportation direction downstream side of the reading position and for reversing the front and back of the original, and a second switchback path provided on the transportation direction downstream side of the first switchback path and for reversing the front and back of the original and reguiding the original to the transportation path. The reading means rereads the original transported along the first and second transportation paths in accordance with identification results of the identifying means.
