Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To read an image at an optimum original scanning speed, even when it is not designated that an original is a single-sided image original or a double-sided image original by reading an image at an optimum scanning speed, when reading a single-sided original and a double-sided original.
SOLUTION: When reading a double-sided original, simultaneous reading of the double-sided image is performed at a process speed of an unmagnification optical system using a CIS (contact image sensor); and when reading a single-sided original, image reading is performed at a process speed of a reduction optical system using a CCD (charge coupled device). Also, when an original to be read is not designated as a single-sided image or double-sided image, a first original is read at a process speed of the unmagnification optical system, using the CIS. In this case, when the first original is a single-sided image original, second and succeeding originals are read by the reduction optical system, and when the first original is double-sided original, the second and the succeeding originals are continuously read by the unmagnification optical system.
