To provide a technology of suppressing occurrence of an image quality difference between read image data of a front side and a rear side in double side simultaneous reading whereby images formed on both the front and rear sides of an original.
A special purpose front side pre-processing section 104 and a special purpose rear side pre-processing section 106 apply pre-processing to characteristics such as shading correction unique to each read section determined by a relationship between a light source (an illumination lamp and an LED) and sensors (a CCD image sensor 78 and a CIS 50). On the other hand, one and the same post-processing section 105 applies post processing to both the front side image data and the rear side image data, the post-processes being filter processing relating to other general image quality, magnification/reduction processing, color conversion processing, gradation conversion processing (TRC), or all side AE and TI separation or the like.
