The image reading apparatus optically reads an original image at the reading position A while conveying an original right above reading glass 40 by an automatic document feeder. The brush-like cleaning member 45 is rotatably arranged opposite to the reading position A right above the reading glass 40. A duct 45d having a duct hole 45e is formed in an axial member 45a of the cleaning member 45, and the foreign matter scratched off from the top of the reading glass 40 is sucked by the cleaning member 45.
