Abstract:
To facilitate maintenance and correction of a reading unit such as a scanner included in a reading device.SOLUTION: An image reading device comprises a reading unit that is arranged at a reading position of a conveyance path for conveying a continuous long print medium and reads an image formed on the print medium, and is provided with a withdrawal unit that withdraws the print medium from the reading position of the reading unit. During the reading performed by the reading unit, the withdrawal unit arranges the print medium at the reading position, and at the completion of the reading performed by the reading unit, withdraws the print medium from the reading unit and secures a predetermined space between the reading unit and the print medium to allow maintenance of the reading unit. With the predetermined space being secured, the image reading device can move a shading unit to the vicinity of the reading unit to perform shading correction.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
