Abstract:
To provide a technique that can prevent a thick medium from being determined as multi feeding even without a sensor dedicated to detecting a thick medium.SOLUTION: A control unit of an image reading device performs control of, when switching from the absence of a medium to the presence of a medium is detected by a medium detection unit in a state in which the quantity of light from a light emitting unit of the medium detection unit is a first light quantity, changing the light quantity to a second light quantity larger than the first light quantity, when the quantity of light detected by a light receiving unit of the medium detection unit exceeds a predetermined quantity due to the change from the first light quantity to the second light quantity, determines whether a medium is multi feeding according to a result of detection performed by a multi feeding detection unit, and when the quantity of detected light does not exceed the predetermined quantity due to the change from the first light quantity to the second light quantity, does not determine that the medium is multi feeding.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 8
