Nip rolls on the entrance side and the exit side of a recording carrying device 10 are brought into press-contact with the recording medium just after the leading edge of the recording medium passes through a press- contact point, and continue the press-contact just until the trailing edge of the recording medium passes through the press-contact point. Other nip rolls are brought into press-contact with the recording medium just after the leading edge of the recording medium passes through the press-contact point and release the press-contact after the downstream side nip rolls are brought into press- contacts therewith. A value obtained by multiplying an image recording cycle by the ratio of the length of a recorded image recorded in the image recording cycle set for every nip roll to theoretical recording length is set to the new recording cycle of the nip roll. The table of the image recording cycle set for every nip roll is provided by the number of the combination of the number of kinds of the recording medium with the number of kinds of the cut length of the recording medium.
