To provide a technology which can achieve a high resolution in multipath recording and can suppress deterioration in image quality in such a manner that it is made unnecessary to accurately determine a position of each nozzle row so as not to cause a pitch of recording elements to be inappropriate at a joint portion of the nozzle rows.
A recording unit 17 is configured such that a plurality of short recording heads 28 having nozzle rows 18 arranged in a main scanning direction by overlapping a part of nozzles and performs recording on a recording medium 8. A conveyance mechanism 4 performs a plurality of times of conveying of the recording medium 8 to a position facing each of the short recording heads 28. A recording unit movement control section 24 causes the recording unit 17 to be moved in an ejection nozzle row direction during a time period while the conveyance mechanism 4 conveys the recording medium 8 to the recording unit 17. A recording data control section 23 determines a correction value of the amount of ink to be ejected from ejection nozzles at a joint portion in accordance with expansion or contraction of the recording medium 8. A nozzle row recording control section 22 controls ejection of ink from the ejection nozzles on the basis of the determined correction value and job information received from a host device.
