PURPOSE: To output a color image and a monochromatic print at a high speed and low cost with high print quality on an optional substrate by forming an image as a latent image on a microcapsule sheet, coating an optional substrate with a developer and applying pressure and developing the latent image together with the microcapsule sheet.

CONSTITUTION: The microcapsule sheet 48 is exposed on a supporting table 45 to a CRT 41 while sent out by a sending-out roller 46, and then sent out almost to a pressure developing roller 50. The substrate 31 at an A position is sent to the pressure developing roller 50 and developed in synchronism with the latent image formation position of the microcapsule sheet 48, and microcapsules which do not photoset are broken and dye precursors in the microcapsules react to the developer to cause coloring. The colored substrate moves along a conveyance path 33 again and returns to a B position, and then a monochromatic print process is carried out and the substrate 31 after color image output and monochromatic print output is discharged from a discharge opening 60. Consequently, the color image and monochromatic print are outputted on the optional substrate 31 at a high speed and low cost with high print quality.
