To provide an image retrieval device for detecting edges and extracting features with accuracy by using corner detection.

The device retrieves image data similar to input image data from stored image data stored in a database, and includes a layout feature extraction unit for extracting a plurality of regions of which the corner densities are higher than those of other regions, computes regional features from a representative color and a size for each region and generates histogram from the regional features of the plurality of regions; a color correlograms generation unit for generating a matrix with constituent elements of an appearance frequency of combinations of an adjacent pixel and a color for each pixel and computing adjacent color similarity from each element of each matrix of the input image data and the stored image data; and a similarity calculating unit for computing region similarity between histograms of the input image data and the stored image data, setting total similarity by adding the region similarity and the adjacent color similarity to each other and retrieving images from the database on the basis of the total similarity.
