Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image retrieval system which compares and retrieves images whose features are represented as color distribution feature quantities or frequency distribution feature quantities with simple device constitution without spoiling retrieval performance.
SOLUTION: This image retrieval system which retrieves a similar image by deciding the similarity of an image whose feature is represented as an image feature quantity, i.e., a color distribution feature quantity or frequency distribution feature quantity is equipped with a retrieval object image feature quantity storage part 60 which refers to data on image feature quantities of respective object images to be retrieved, an inquiry image feature quantity input part 50 which receives data on the image feature quantity of an inquired image, a data processing part 10 which matches the kinds of the image feature quantities of the respective object images to be retrieved and the inquired image with each other by converting the kind of the image feature quantity of an image set as an object of the conversion of the kind of the image feature quantity, and a similarity calculation part 40 which compares the converted image feature quantity of the inquired image with the converted image feature quantities of the respective object images to decide their similarities and then retrieves similar images.
