The image sensor has a plurality of pixels arranged in rows and columns, at least two adjacent pixels 5 in the same row, which have photodetectors PD, a row selecting mechanism which can independently select the adjacent pixels 5 and common output signal node and output signal line for the two adjacent pixels.
