To separate a toner with a less amt. of an image separation liquid by adopting a separation method wherein a toner and an image to be separated are kept in contact with each other under heating for a longer time (2-10 sec) than in a conventional method and by using an image separation liquid contg. a surfactant which is more effective in the separation.
An image-carrying support of which at least a part is a paper- like substance layer mainly comprising cellulose fibers and which has an image formed on the layer from a hot-melt or thermoplastic image-forming substance is recycled by causing the support to retain an image separation liquid contg. water and causing the liquid and an image being separeted to be in contact with each other under heating for 2 sec or longer. In this method, a separation liquid used is a water soln. contg. a surfactant which hardly allows a toner to adhere again and has a high toner affinity.
