Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a decoder having a capacity of a reference picture memory by one picture or by two pictures that can decode a same bit stream.
SOLUTION: A bit stream A is generated by applying forward prediction coding to image signals of each of N pictures while using N-preceding pictures for prediction pictures, a bit stream B is generated by applying forward prediction coding to image signals other than the image signals of each of N pictures while using the N-preceding pictures for the prediction pictures, a bit stream C is generated by applying backward prediction coding to image signals by N pictures while using the 2 pictures before and after for each of N-preceding pictures for the prediction pictures, a common header used in common by the bit streams B, C is added to the bit stream A and the common header is excluded from the bit streams B, C and then they are transmitted in parallel.
