To provide an image transmission apparatus and an image transmission method for reading an image in color when an original is a color original and transmitting the read image to an external device and reading an image in black/white when an original is a black/white original and transmitting the read image to the external device.
The image transmission apparatus is provided with: a read means for reading an original in color or in black/white and storing a read original image; and a transmission means capable of transmitting the original image to the external device; and also a detection means for making communication with the external device and detecting whether or not the external device can receive a color original image. The image transmission apparatus is characterized in that when the detection means detects that the external device can receive the color original image, the transmission means transmits the color original image resulting from reading the original in color and storing it by the read means to the external device, when the detection means detects that the external device cannot receive the color original image, the transmission means transmits the black/white original image resulting from reading the original in black/white and storing it by the read means to the external device.
