To provide an imaging apparatus in which a sight line detector using no finder is incorporated inexpensively.
A subject is photographed by a main camera 16, and its through-image is displayed on an LCD panel 3. Infrared light is radiated to photographer's face by an infrared light emitting part 8 arranged below the LCD panel 3. The photographer's face is photographed by a sub camera 7 arranged on an opposite side to the infrared light emitting part 8 while putting the LCD panel 3 in between. The display area of the LCD panel 3 is divided into a plurality of sight line detecting sections, and a sight line position that is a position to which photographer's eye 19 turns is detected based on the image taken by the sub camera 7, and the sight line detecting section corresponding to the sight line position is specified. The through-image taken by the main camera 16 is divided into a plurality of range-finding areas corresponding to the plurality of sight line detecting sections, and the main camera 16 is focused based on the range-finding section corresponding to the specified sight line detection section.
