To provide a technology for suppressing deterioration of image quality when an imaging frame rate of a video changes.
The imaging apparatus includes: imaging means acquiring video data by reading an image signal at a first frame rate or a second frame rate higher than the first frame rate from an imaging element generating the image signal by photoelectrically converting incident light from an optical system including a diaphragm; and control means controlling the diaphragm and exposure time so that luminance of the image signal acquired by the imaging means becomes a prescribed level in a range where exposure time of the imaging element becomes maximum exposure time being an inverse number of the frame rate of the imaging means or below. The control means performs control in the range where the exposure time is shorter than first time being the inverse number of the first frame rate when the imaging means is operating at the first frame rate.
