An imaging apparatus is provided with: an image sensor which outputs a signal corresponding to a captured subject image; exposure control means which controls exposure using image data based on the signal outputted from the image sensor; tracking means which tracks an object meeting predetermined conditions using plural pieces of image data used for the exposure control; and correction means which performs correction for approximation of values relating to the luminance of the plural pieces of image data used to the tracking to each other. When the correction is performed, the tracking means performs the tracking on the basis of the corrected value.
