To solve the problem that it is difficult to recognize an actual storing status of image data because the information of image data stored in a device different from a device having deleted/modified image data is not changed, even if the image data recorded in an imaging apparatus and an external recording apparatus have been deleted/modified, in an image management system consisting of the imaging apparatus capable of recording photographed subject images as image data, and transferring the image data to the external recording apparatus and the external recording apparatus capable of recording the transferred image data.

This system has a configuration in which, when one of the apparatuses deletes/modifies the image data, changing information of the image data is transmitted to the other apparatus to notify a photographer about the change using a notifying means, thereby allowing one apparatus to confirm the change in image data in the image management system.
