Abstract:

To perform scanning operation of an ink carriage well at all times without employing a high output drive motor in an ink jet printer which performs imaging on a recording sheet while performing scanning operation of the ink carriage.

The imaging apparatus comprises means for detecting the length dimension of a timing belt 56 securing an ink carriage 51 to travel freely. If the length dimension of the timing belt 56 is longer than a predetermined length dimension, driving force of a drive motor, at the initial stage of starting scanning of the ink carriage 51, is set lower than a reference driving force. If the length dimension of the timing belt 56 is shorter than the predetermined length dimension, driving force of the drive motor, at the initial stage of starting scanning of the ink carriage 51, is set higher than the reference driving force.
