PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of achieving high-speed AF.SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus comprises: an imaging element photoelectrically converting the optical image of an object made incident through a photographic optical system, to output an electric signal; a pupil division part limiting the luminous flux of the optical image of the object made incident on each pixel on the imaging element to only the luminous flux from the specific pupil region of the photographic optical system; a range-finding frame determination part setting the computing range of a focal position, based on the electric signal obtained by the luminous flux after passing through only the specific pupil region limited by the pupil division part; an image shifting part applying a shift different in each pupil region after passage to the electric signal obtained by the luminous flux after passing through a plurality of pupil regions different from the specific pupil region in the computing range set by the range-finding frame determination part; an image producing part producing an image by adding the electric signal shifted by the image shifting part; and a focus evaluation part performing the focus evaluation of the image obtained by the image producing part.
