To shorten the time required for acquiring appropriate exposure and obtain high AE accuracy.SOLUTION: An exposure control unit 109 of an imaging apparatus 100 sets a tracking control value for storing electric charges in an image pick-up device 103 in the same period of a VD signal based on a photometry result obtained from the current control value and a first predictive control value, determines whether at least one of an appropriate difference between the tracking control value and its photometric value and an appropriate difference between the first predictive control value and its photometric value is equal to or less than a predetermined allowable value, and determines a photometric value corresponding to the appropriate difference equal to or less than the allowable value as appropriate exposure. At that time, the exposure control unit performs driving to the appropriate exposure with an initial value or any one of the photometric values of the tracking control value and the first predictive control value when there is no appropriate difference equal to or less than the allowable value as the current control value.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
