To provide an imaging apparatus capable of matching the timing of the reset operation of an imaging element with the traveling property of a mechanical shutter as much as possible by estimating the traveling property of the mechanical shutter, with a simple configuration.
The imaging apparatus includes: a scan control part executing a first scan for starting the accumulation of an electric charge for each line of the imaging element and a second scan which is started after the first scan is started and is for reading the electric charge accumulated for each line of the imaging element; a light shielding part shielding the light receiving surface of the imaging element from light, after the first scan is started; and a traveling property estimation part estimating the traveling property of the light shielding part from image data generated from the electric charge read from the imaging element. The traveling property estimation part estimates the traveling property of the light shielding part from an exposure area and a non-exposure area in a plurality of image data which are generated from the electric charge accumulated in the imaging element by the first scan whose speed is controlled by the scan control part.
