An imaging apparatus comprises an imaging element 505. The imaging element 505 includes a pixel section in which one micro lens has a plurality of photoelectric conversion units for photoelectrically converting light fluxes having passed through different regions formed by dividing an exit pupil of an imaging optical system to generate image signals. The imaging apparatus generates left-eye image data and right-eye image data on the basis of the image signals outputted from the imaging element 505, and generates a parallax map used for generating image data for 3D display on the basis of the left-eye image data and the right-eye image data. The imaging apparatus obtains a size of a display device displaying the image data for 3D display to edit a parallax amount of the parallax map according to the obtained size of the display device.
