To provide an imaging apparatus and an imaging method capable of reducing adverse effects on images due to the homochromatic pixel summation processing.
The imaging apparatus includes an imaging element 10 wherein color filters adopting the primary color Bayer arrangement are arranged; an imaging element drive means 11 for generating a drive signal for summing two adjacent pixels in the horizontal direction wherein the homochromatic color filters are arranged and reading the sum from the imaging element 10 during the period of high-definition video signal; an A/D conversion processing means 12 for converting an analog signal, outputted from a result of homochromatic summation and reading by the imaging element 10, into a digital signal; and a camera signal processing means 13 for applying various camera signal processes to the output signal from the A/D conversion processing means 12 and producing a luminance signal/color difference signals as final output signal. Thus, the drive signal, generated by the imaging element drive means 11, switches the combination of the summated pixels for each unit video signal period.
